Start, stop and restart your VPS

Open Servers and choose your server. The buttons at the top change with its state:

  • Start appears when it is shut off.
  • Stop shuts it down cleanly.
  • Restart asks the operating system to restart cleanly.

These buttons act straight away, without asking you to confirm. Each one is a request: the page says it has been requested, and the server's status changes a few moments later. While a resize is waiting for you to keep or undo it, the power buttons are hidden.

You can also start, stop and restart from the search bar (Ctrl+K), which asks you to confirm.

When it is not responding

A clean restart needs the operating system to cooperate. If it is frozen, use Force restart on the Recovery tab. It is like pulling the power and plugging it back in, so anything not yet saved to disk is lost. You type the server's name to confirm.

If it still does not come back, look at the Boot log tab and the console, then raise a ticket.

Stopping does not stop billing

A stopped server is still yours and is still billed. To stop paying for it, cancel it.
