Use the in-browser console
The console is your server's screen and keyboard, in your browser. It works when SSH does not: a broken network setting, a firewall that locks you out, or a server stuck while starting up.
Open it
Open Servers, choose your server, then the Console tab or the Console button. The server must be running (or in rescue mode); if it is not, the page asks you to start it first.
You must be signed in to VPS GB. Each console session is set up fresh when you open it.
Logging in
At the console you log in with a user name and password, not your SSH key. New servers have no password, so set one first with Reset access.
The buttons
- Ctrl+Alt+Del sends that key combination to the server.
- Actual size and Full screen change how the screen is shown.
- Reconnect starts a new session if the old one dropped.
- New window opens the console on its own.
- Type text into the console sends text you paste as key presses. It types
using a US keyboard layout, so check that symbols such as
@and"came through as you meant.
Also useful
The Boot log tab shows what the server printed while starting up, which often explains why it is not reachable.
